PLA SURVEY

HOW YOU CAN HELP – Ontario Residents Only

Health Quality Ontario (HQO) a provincial organization focused on the quality of health care in Ontario. HQO provides objective advice and data for government in improving health care and encourages the spread of innovative and proven programs to support high quality care, while also saving money and eliminating redundancy.

HQO is currently reviewing a Pigmented Lesion Assay (PLA), which is a diagnostic tool to help determine if a skin biopsy is needed to assess for potential melanoma.  A key part of this review is to gather information from patients to ensure the lived-experience of patients and families are considered.  This review will result in a recommendation to the Ministry of Health about the potential public funding of the Pigmented Lesion Assay diagnostic tool.

WHAT IS PIGMENTED LESION ASSAY (PLA)

This Pigmented Lesion Assay (PLA) provides physicians with a non-invasive option to identify atypical pigmented lesions (or moles) at high risk for melanoma. Using an adhesive patch rather than a scalpel, it provides highly accurate, objective information to the physician to improve patient care and comfort through advanced molecular pathology gene expression.

WHO IS HQO LOOKING TO SPEAK TO?

  • Must be an Ontario resident
  • People who have previously had a skin/lesion biopsy to determine the presence of melanoma
  • People who may be considering a skin/lesion biopsy to determine the presence of melanoma in the future

Participants do not need to have used the Pigmented Lesion Assay to participate.

WHAT THEY NEED FROM YOU
